I raced today!
At Copper Mountain.
The kids had their end of the season "fun event" parent/child race. My first race EVER! AND I did great. Really. The competitive Moms were coming in with 23 and 24 second times. I ran my first run at 29 (somethin' somethin' as the kids say) and my second run was 27 somethin' somethin'. I think Tim ~ big college racer that he was ~ ran a 23 second course. Not bad for my first time ever!
KitKat once again placed 7th in her heat and received the "Go Getter Award" for continued improvement and hard work.
She and I ended the day catching the lift at 3:50. It stops at 4:00. I asked her, do you think we can makeit in time to do two runs? She was game ~ we flew down to the bottom and skidded into line. Woohoo! Excellent end to a fun and crazy day!

We got a TON of spring snow March 16th and 17th! Really fun! In our hometown we don't get much snow and an inch pretty much closes school, causes a run on the grocery store, and creates a mess all over town...
Here are the kids enjoying a day of snow in the mountains and completely shocked that yes indeed the bus will fetch them despite a foot of snow!

The Joy of Siblings...

So M Lyons is now 3 and Izzy Bits is 17 months and they just have to spend all day in each other's space. Which means continual whine from Bits and running commentary from Lyons "Mom! Bits is in my stuff!" "Mom Bits is taking my doll" "Mom..."

Don't Melt the Butter in Your Bedroom!

Busy day today. Tim was going to take K to the bank after school to deposit Kathleen's Kitchen checks, and then go to the grocery store for some baking powder. K wanted to bake this evening to get some cookies done for Nana (she baked grandma's last night.) We have found that the batter mixes up better if the butter is very soft. Usually K will put her two sticks of butter on the counter in the morning and let them soften (don't be freaked out by this lots of people all over the world do not refrigerate butter!) She did not this morning as she knew she was out of baking powder and did not know if she'd be able to get more. So after school ~ she learned she would be getting baking powder ~ and she decided to soften the butter quickly. She took 4 sticks of butter upstairs to her bedroom and placed them in front of the space heater to "warm up" and then went downstairs to the basement to play with Maggie until it was time to go to the bank. Seriously!
So I see her in the basement and tell her and her father that the banks will be closed if the don't get a move on she proudly fills me in on her idea for softening butter. So, I sent her upstairs to turn off the heater and return the butter to the kitchen. She comes downstairs sobbing with 3 1/2 sticks of squishy butter wrapped up in a bathroom towel. "Mom, it melted all over the place!" Really?
Later at bedtime we were giggling about how the next time she needs to write a piece for "Creative Writing" at school she has a great title "Don't Melt the Butter in your Bedroom!"
